Android, rolling toward marketshare prominence with the momentum of a full attack from our robotic overlords, overtook Apple to become the number two mover of smart phone devices. RIM still holds the throne, but the combined sales of each Android device on the market (Droid Eris to Motorola Backflip to HTC Hero) outnumbered Apple's sales of the iPhone by 7%. To celebrate (okay, not really celebrate, but comemmorate) the moment, HTC leaked a new entry-level Android handset called the Wildfire (which you can read about here) and we reviewed the new LG Ally, the maker's first U.S. smart phone with Google's open OS installed inside.
